Smoothies!

 This half term in DT, we have been learning all about healthy eating. We learnt about the Eat Well Plate and how to have a balanced and healthy diet. Then we designed a healthy, delicious smoothie using any fruits and vegetables of the children's choice. After careful planning, we made our smoothies last week. We used the skills of chopping, slicing, peeling and grating to prepare the fruits and vegetables and then blended them with some juice to create vibrant smoothies. Finally, we tasted and evaluated our smoothies.

Science Day

 Last week, we celebrated a special week of Science activities. We took part in a live lesson all about farmers and the contribution they make to society. On Friday, we were extremely lucky to watch a series of experiments all about the wonder of Science. There were explosions, volcanic eruptions and a rainbow of colours. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and hopefully it sparked a fascination with Science that will last a lifetime!

Spanish Carnival

 We celebrated Spanish Carnival in school with a special assembly all about the history of Carnival and how it is celebrated in Spain and across the world, followed by making Carnival masks and then taking part of a parade on the playground. Each class paraded their own unique creations.

Oracy Day

 On Friday, Eclipse Class took part in our school wide Oracy Day. This was a whole day focused on the development on strong speaking and listening skills. We used our Guidelines for Discussion to take part in several lessons, with all the activities focusing on a different oracy based skill. The children were fantastic and demonstrated some very high level speaking skills; using great vocabulary, reasoning skills, and group work throughout the day.

Pantomine

 Last week, Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful Cinderella pantomime played by two hilarious and talented actors. The children had a great time, joined in all the parts and learnt some fun new games! Thank you to those families who came and joined in with our Spanish lesson yesterday, the children loved having you join in with the lesson and learn some Spanish with them! Looking forward to the next open morning.

Open Morning

We all enjoyed a wonderful Open Morning today. The theme was mathematical problem solving which we linked to our current topic on shape. The children completed a carousel of different problem solving and reasoning questions, working together in groups.  All the problems were successfully solved by at least one group each! We all worked well together and practiced some good oracy along the way. Thank you to those family members who were able to join!

White Post Farm

 Last week, we had a visit from White Post Farm. They brought in lots of little, furry animals and a few creepy reptiles! All of the children were very respectful of the animals and brave handling them, even Gary the snake!
